The Purple Garlic Competition of Las Pedroñeras already has a winner
With cod with pil pil sauce and crab stew, María Luisa de la Torre, from the Retama restaurant * (Torrenueva, Ciudad Real) won the XIV National Purple Garlic Cooking Competition of Las Pedroñeras at the 50th edition of the International Garlic Fair and took home the 2,000 euro prize.
The second place, endowed with one thousand euros, went to Ariel Munguia, from Raza (Valladolid), who prepared a salad of vegetables and herbs, and the third (500 euros) was achieved by Nerea Bescós and Sergio Molina, from El Doncel * (Sigüenza, Guadalajara), with some sweetbreads in garlic sauce.
"The purple garlic of Las Pedroñeras is in our DNA," emphasized Fran Martinez of Maralba.
(Almansa, Albacete), as president of a jury that praised "the high level of the participating cooks" and took into account factors such as the presentation, flavor and texture of the six dishes presented.
At the awards ceremony, the winner of the Tapas Route was also announced: Cecil Bar, for a toast dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the International Garlic Fair, whose program included everything from concerts to culinary talks and workshops about this popular ingredient.
