Goody 1976 in Rome: the historic record store becomes a diner, offering croissants, bagels, and pastrami
Goody 1976 in Rome. Bringing a breath of fresh air to the narrow streets of the Flaminio neighborhood is the opening of Goody 1976, the new bar and restaurant at Via Flaminia 23.
The place
An elegant space of approximately 200 square meters, seating 40 inside, plus 40 on the outdoor terrace and windows overlooking Via Beccaria. A long bar, stools, and high tables in the entrance hall welcome customers for a quick break, opening onto two other rooms. Bottle green walls and a black-and-white marble floor dominate. Among mirrors, hanging album covers, and 1950s chandeliers, the first thing the eye notices in the interior is the open kitchen, marked with a vintage "recording" plaque from the old Goody Music recording studio.
The proposal
Goody is a daytime venue, open from morning until early evening, offering a range of sweet and savory options, with a menu that changes depending on the time of day. Fresh, authentic ingredients are favored, and customers can choose a daily special based on their daily spending.
First and foremost, for breakfast (from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.), croissants, pain au chocolat, and raisin and cinnamon rolls are baked, along with maritozzo with cream, ciambella, and bomba. Everything is homemade daily by pastry chef Giorgia Roscioli (who has trained at Le Levain and Le Carré Français and has extensive experience in Roman restaurants). For those who prefer a savory breakfast, the pastry chef also offers bagels, tramezzini, toast, filled croissants, and savory bombs.
Finally, for a complete breakfast, three interesting breakfast combos are available: Rhome (11 euros), with coffee, juice, toast, butter, and jam; LA (13 euros), with American coffee, pancakes, maple syrup, toast, scrambled eggs, and bacon; Rio (13 euros), with coffee, juice, avocado toast, yogurt, and granola.
Afterwards, for lunch (12:30-3:30 p.m.), the menu features tasty and appetizing dishes that rival those of an American diner. For example, the Pastrami Sandwich (€11), where the pastrami is homemade with meat from the Feroci line, according to the recipe of Argentine chef Emiliano Lopez, who leads the team. The sandwich is served on homemade multi-grain bread, homemade mayonnaise, pickles, tomato, and lettuce, accompanied by fries. Then there's the Goody Burger (€13), with a Danish burger served in a homemade bun, lettuce, cheddar, smoked paprika, tomato, honey mustard, and fries.
The lunch menu will satisfy even those tourists craving a traditional Roman pasta dish. A selection of six first courses includes the timeless tonnarelli cacio e pepe (€11), strozzapreti alla gricia or alla amatriciana (€12), and mezze maniche alla carbonara (€12).
The main courses alternate between seafood and meat, and include salmon à la plancha (13 euros) with rice, steamed vegetables, and parsley potatoes, or rib-eye steak (15 euros), a slice of beef from the Feroci selection, with Provençal potatoes and herb butter. Additionally, the menu features two sections dedicated to a healthier lunch: one for salads, one for poke bowls. Finally, four freshly prepared desserts are available, including tiramisu (6 euros) and grandma's tart, pine nuts, and cream (6 euros).
