Pope Leo XIV requested these typical dishes for his visit to Chiclayo

Pope Leo XIV's visit to Chiclayo, scheduled for November 13 and 14, will also be accompanied by traditional regional flavors. During his stay in the city, the pontiff will have the opportunity to enjoy two representative dishes of Lambayeque cuisine.

What dishes did Pope Leo XIV order?

According to Magaly Castillo, cook for the Diocese of Chiclayo, the Vatican specifically requested the preparation of Chiclayo-style goat and duck with rice for Pope Leo XIV.

Both dishes will be specially prepared for the lunches the Pope will have at the Bishopric of Chiclayo. The organizers plan to alternate the dishes during his stay.

"One day we'll make goat, another day duck and rice," the cook explained, referring to the menu planned for the visit.

Two classics of Lambayeque cuisine

The goat dish from Chiclayo is prepared mainly with goat, onion, yellow chili pepper, cilantro and chicha de jora, ingredients that provide the characteristic flavor of this traditional dish from Lambayeque.

Meanwhile, arroz con pato combines rice, duck, cilantro, onion, yellow chili pepper, and chicha de jora (a fermented corn beverage). This dish is renowned for its flavor and is one of the most representative dishes of northern Peruvian cuisine.

A special meeting for the cook of the diocese

For Magaly Castillo, the visit will also have a special significance. The cook had already had the opportunity to prepare food for Robert Prevost and to see him up close during a previous visit.

Now, the scenario will be different: she will once again have the privilege of cooking for him, but this time as Pope Leo XIV.
