Ingredients · Servings 4
- 500 grams of fresh black mulberries
- 1 cup of powdered sugar
- 5 glasses of water
- Juice of half a lemon
- Optionally, a few sprigs of fresh mint (for serving)
- Ice (for serving)
Method · 30 min
- 1. Carefully wash the mulberries and remove the stems.
- 2. To prevent them from losing their color, drain them immediately after washing.
- 3. Place the mulberries and sugar in a large saucepan.
- 4. Add 5 cups of water.
- 5. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
- 6. After it comes to a boil, simmer for 15-20 minutes.
- 7. Once the mulberries have softened and released their color into the water, add the juice of half a lemon.
- 8. This keeps the syrup's color vibrant and also gives it a slight sourness.
- 9. Once the mixture has cooled, strain it through a sieve or cheesecloth to separate the pulp.
- 10. If you want the syrup to be clear, you can strain it twice.
- 11. Pour the syrup into a glass bottle and refrigerate for at least 1-2 hours.
- 12. When serving, add ice and a few mint leaves to the glasses.
