The Best Restaurants for Over-the-Top Tomahawk Steaks

Las Vegas recently said goodbye to Nusr-et and Salt Bae’s famous tomahawk experience. However, not all hope is lost on the carnivore front, as the city boasts an impressive roster of big and bad beef cuts.

Joining the map this update is a whole new slate of tomahawk destinations, including Papi Steak with its $1,000 tomahawk, classic meat destination Smith & Wollensky, and old-school favorite Golden Steer Steakhouse.

Oscar’s Steakhouse

This tried-and-true steakhouse, which is named as a nod to former mayor Oscar Goodman, is located inside the Plaza Hotel with a groovy view of Fremont Street, all from the glass-encased dome that covers a stately circular room and glittering chandeliers. Steaks are the main event, sourced from all over the world in a wide selection of cuts. Enjoy a domestically sourced 44-ounce tomahawk paired with a classic salad and trusty steakhouse sides like mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. Sip on the jalapeno and gin Hizzoner or a classic gin and tonic to complete any meal here.

Harlo Steakhouse & Bar

The wagyu tomahawk at Harlo (styled as Harlø) is part of the large format list, which also features a 32-ounce rib steak. Weighing in at 42 ounces bone-in, this wagyu tomahawk hails from Westholme Ranch in Australia and yields a buttery-smooth flavor and finish. The wood-fired steak is carved tableside on a charming trolley for added flair. Order sauces and add-ons, like truffle butter and seared foie gras, to accompany the main event.

Golden Steer Steakhouse Las Vegas

Reservations at the Golden Steer can take months to score, but once in, missing out on the tomahawk simply isn’t an option. The Creekstone Farms 45-ounce USDA prime tomahawk features the steakhouse’s signature Sergio’s Seasoning and a generous splash of housemade au jus. The steak comes with two sides, along with a soup or salad, and can be made Oscar style with asparagus, crab, and béarnaise. Ask for the Maitre d’Butter for additional flavor. Finish out the meal with a sweet treat from the cake-heavy dessert menu, or keep to the classics with bananas Foster, or cherries jubilee.

Joel’s Chophouse

Boutique hotel Ahern may be one of the new kids on the hotel block, but Joel’s Chophouse has the making of a timeless steakhouse, complete with an impressive tomahawk ribeye. This $249 44-ounce Westholme Australian wagyu tomahawk is basted in beef tallow and seared with garlic and herbs, before being served with a red wine bordelaise. Visit on Tomahawk Tuesdays to enjoy this steak for $100 off with a backdrop of floor-to-ceiling windows facing out onto the Strip.

Papi Steak

The Beef Case is the steak that continues to break the internet. Every order gets the VIP treatment when a parade of servers march to the table, dancing to thumping music and dimmed lights, carrying the cut of steak. Once it arrives tableside, the tomahawk is branded with a hot iron. Rated an MS9+ on the marbling score charts, which is the highest a cut can be, the Australian wagyu tomahawk weighs in at 55 ounces and costs a cool $1,000. While the kitchen is cooking the steak after the show, enjoy a loaf of pretzel bread or honey-glazed pork belly. Don’t miss sides like truffle corn with idiazabal cheese and black truffle, and the indulgent $95 caviar-topped Monop Potato.

Carversteak

A menu curated by Daniel Ontiveros, whose portfolio includes restaurants of chef royalty like Joel Robuchon and Thomas Keller, means that the tomahawk is as intentional as the restaurant itself. At Carversteak, the 50-ounce tomahawk rings in at $315 and can be enjoyed with high-end seafood accoutrements like Baby Tristan lobster tail and Alaskan king crab Oscar. Start the evening at the 70-foot quartzite stone bar before sitting down for a steak to make a night out of it.

Four Sixes Ranch Steakhouse

One of the Strip’s most exclusive residences, Four Sixes Ranch Steakhouse offers cowboy fare served with a side of Vegas maximalism. Four Sixes offers a Freedom 48-ounce Japanese wagyu tomahawk as a resort-exclusive cut, sourced from Grazing Star Ranch in Freedom, Wyoming. The steak is carved tableside and served with a beef tallow raclette cheese popover and bordelaise sauce. Enhance the prized bites with broiled jumbo shrimp with black garlic and cowboy butter, or a caviar tower with chicken tenders on the side. The decor features wood-paneled walls and Western necessities like lassos and canteens for authentic wild West vibes. Fans of Yellowstone may already be familiar with Four Sixes from its cameos on the show.

Primal Steakhouse

Beef may reign supreme, but the bison tomahawk at Primal Steakhouse is an adventure into a whole new cut of meat. Priced at $165, this steak weighs 35 ounces deboned and is measured after carving, along with the other Primal Steak selections. Seasoned with a house blend of spices and herbs before being slathered in herb butter, this cut is cooked over gas to lock in a smooth, non-gamey texture and taste.

Smith & Wollensky

Helming the wagyu menu along with a 32-ounce porterhouse, the Smith & Wollensky tomahawk is served in spectacular fashion, suspended bone-up from an S-hook on an elegant metal frame. Served with crispy beef-fat potatoes that catch the juices from this marbled marvel, this steak is best enjoyed with enhancements like a coffee and cocoa rub or gorgonzola crust. Head to the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian Resort to taste this larger-than-life dish from the classic steakhouse.

One Steakhouse

The Tomahawk Feast at One Steakhouse might be the largest steak dish in the city, with a whopping 18-pound USDA Prime cut serving 10-12 people. Carved tableside and prepared with the One Steakhouse spice blend, the Tomahawk Feast comes with a choice of six side dishes, including forest mushrooms with shaved goat cheese and truffle cream, and a can’t-miss, extra-indulgent lobster mac-and-cheese made with cavatappi pasta. This labor-intensive feast must be ordered at least 72 hours in advance and costs $1,500. Slather the meat in One signature steak sauce for further flavor.

StripSteak

Date night is set in stone — and also marbled — at Stripsteak at Mandalay Bay. Perfect for two, the highly-marbled 40-ounce Creekstone tomahawk is finished with red wine shallot butter for a rich buttery flavor. In typical Michael Mina fashion, the richness keeps going when the tomahawk joins creative sides like spicy pork belly fried rice and a loaded baked potato with smoked gouda and bacon marmalade.

Twin Creeks

Make a steak dinner a weekly treat with a Twin Creeks special, served exclusively at Silverton Casino. This 40-ounce cut sourced from Creekstone Farms comes with lobster mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus along with housemade sauces and a pat of black truffle butter on top, all for market price. For the best deal, Tomahawk Thursday offers the same special steak plus delicious starters, sides, and dessert options for $130. Rustic stone walls and rich, colorful seats make this steakhouse a cozy choice for dinner.
