This French patisserie in Richmond has just been named as Australia’s best bakery

Richmond’s Almost French Patisserie was just crowned as the best small bakery in Australia.

“They show up every day with incredible passion, precision and pride. French pastry is an art form. Every croissant, every éclair and every dessert reflects years of training and attention to detail.”

“This award belongs to our entire team,” said Charasse. “They show up every day with incredible passion, precision and pride. French pastry is an art form. Every croissant, every éclair and every dessert reflects years of training and attention to detail.”

Almost French Patisserie

This lovely bakery has been serving up authentic French pastries, desserts and artisan bread to Richmond foodies since 2019.

“We never wanted to be just another cafe,” said Charasse. “We wanted to create a little piece of France where people could experience genuine French hospitality, traditional recipies and exceptional quality.”

Charasse is a Maître Pâtissier and Maître Chocolatier with over two decades of experience. After training in France and working in some of Europe’s finest kitchens, he came to Australia, working in places like Vue de Monde and The Windsor, before opening up his own bakery.

On the menu, you’ll find delicious pastries like croissants, pain au chocolats and friands. For something a little more savoury, go for a quiche, a baguette or croque monsieur. Or, keep it sweet with an eclair, tiramisu, a slice of mille feuille, a pear tart or a macaron. Don’t forget to grab a coffee while you’re there!

If you can’t make it to Richmond, swing by their little sister venue, Almost French Epicure, which opened on Little Collins Street late last year. There, you’ll find all the pastries and desserts, as well as charcuterie, French pantry products, and even wine. This venue is open until late in the evening, so you can slow down and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

27/29 Little Collins St, Melbourne VIC 3000
