Four bakeries in the province of Tarragona have made it into the top 50 in Spain in the 2026 edition of "50 Top Bakers of Spain," a competition organized by the Panàtics and Pan de Calidad platforms. This year's list recognizes professionals and establishments from across the country after a selection process involving more than 300 professionals.
The representatives of the province are Forn Sistaré, of Reus; L'Obrador Forn Artesà de Prades and Forn La Plaça, both of Prades; and Pastisseria Larrosa, by Flix. In this way, Tarragona gets four representatives on a national list that brings together half a hundred establishments.
Among them is Xavier Sistaré of Forn Sistaré, who thus earns his sixth star and once again ranks among the 50 recognized establishments. The province's presence is also notable in municipalities such as Flix, with Pastisseria Larrosa, represented by Pau Carranza, and Prades, which boasts two bakeries included in this edition: Marc Martí Griñó's and Óscar Cazorla's.
The competition brought together more than 300 professionals through eight traveling events held between April and July in different parts of Spain. Each participant presented two traditional loaves and two Spanish baguettes, which were then subjected to a blind tasting.
The technical jury assessed aspects such as the crust, crumb, volume, aroma, flavor, and overall quality of the loaves. The process was completed with visits to the establishments to also verify the product's quality and its marketing.
All scores were kept in sealed envelopes and opened before a notary to determine the 50 establishments included in the ranking and the three finalists. With these results, four bakeries from the province of Tarragona are among the recognized establishments in this year's edition.
