Uzbekistan looks to Serbia for fruit nursery expertise
Uzbekistan is looking to Serbia for expertise in fruit tree nurseries and intensive orchards. The country is considering cooperation with Serbian company KALEM VOĆE MILADINOVIĆ on producing quality planting material and introducing modern nursery and orchard technologies.
The cooperation was discussed by Uzbekistan's Minister of Agriculture Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov and representatives of the Serbian company. The proposed project includes establishing a modern nursery, introducing new propagation and grafting techniques, and developing intensive orchards.
The M. Mirzayev Research Institute of Horticulture, Viticulture and Winemaking has been proposed as a pilot site, where modern fruit seedlings could be produced and trial plots established. The project may also include training and internships for 20–30 students and industry specialists in grafting, rootstock selection and intensive orchard management.
Representatives of KALEM VOĆE MILADINOVIĆ are expected to visit Uzbekistan in September or October 2026 to assess potential sites and discuss the nursery's technical specifications, the cooperation model and the next steps.
For Uzbekistan, local production of quality and certified planting material could reduce reliance on imported seedlings and support the renewal of existing orchards and the development of intensive fruit production.
