Gyros in pita with tzatziki

Ingredients · Servings 4
  • 500 g shredded pork
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 red onion
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 ss oregano
  • 1 tablespoon thyme
  • 1 tablespoon rosemary
  • salt
  • pepper
  • oil
  • onion
  • tomatoes
  • French fries
  • parsley
  • pita bread
  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 5 dl Greek yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon white wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon mint
  • salt
Method · 1 h
  1. Grate the cucumber and place it in a sieve. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt, mix well and leave the cucumber for 15 minutes. Squeeze as much water as possible out of the cucumber (place the cucumber in the middle of a clean kitchen towel, wrap it up and squeeze out the excess liquid).
  2. Finely chop or grate the garlic and mix together the garlic, yoghurt, vinegar, olive oil and mint. Stir in the cucumber and season with more salt if necessary. A little ground pepper can also be used.
  3. Cut the meat into strips. Finely chop the onion and garlic. Mix together the meat, onion, garlic, oil, vinegar, honey and herbs. Let the meat marinate for at least 1 hour and preferably overnight.
  4. Heat a large frying pan. Season the meat with salt and ground pepper and fry over high heat until the meat is cooked through.
  5. Fill the pita breads with meat, tzatziki, onions, tomatoes, parsley and French fries.

Make delicious Greek gyros in pita with tzatziki and dream away to the Greek islands! The meat will be extra good if it is marinated with gyros spices overnight. Estimated time does not include marinating. If you have time to spare, you can make the pita bread yourself. Tip: The fresh herbs in the marinade can be replaced with dried ones (2 teaspoons of each herb). Fresh mint in the tzatziki can be replaced with a good pinch of dried mint. Dill can also be used, or a mixture of mint and dill.

1 red onion, small

1 tablespoon honey, liquid
