Greek pita bread with meatballs
This recipe for Greek pita bread with meatballs is the ultimate comfort food for me. We all know pita gyros, of course. When we are on holiday in Greece, Chris prefers to eat one every day. I am more of a fan of this version: pita bread with meatballs.
- 4 pita breads
- 350 g minced meat
- 200 g cherry tomatoes
- 10 cm cucumber
- 1 rode ui
- 80 gr Dodoni feta
- 200 gr Dodoni tzatziki
- A handful of fresh dill
- 2 tl oregano
- Salt and pepper
- Olive oil
- Season the minced meat with pepper, salt, and oregano. Form meatballs the size of a two-euro coin. Fry them until browned on all sides in a splash of olive oil.
- Halve the cherry tomatoes, slice the red onion into rings, and cut the cucumber into cubes. Mix this, add a small splash of olive oil and some salt and pepper.
- Heat the pita bread on a grill or in the oven.
- Divide the meatballs among the pita breads. Also divide the tomato and cucumber among the breads.
- Crumble the feta over the Greek pita bread and finish with a spoonful of tzatziki and some freshly chopped dill.
Feta fanatic!
The feta in this dish really finishes it off. I love this salty Greek cheese. I always keep a pack of Dodoni feta [This link opens in a new tab] in the fridge, because it is simply the best. Nowadays you see a lot of white cheese in the supermarket, but in terms of taste, it doesn't come close to this feta. And secretly, white cheese isn't feta either, so you're better off leaving that alone. Dodoni feta is a genuine Greek product, made from 100% sheep and goat milk.
Are you going to make it?
So, have I whetted your appetite? These Greek pita breads with meatballs are really worth it. You can make them in no time; truly anyone can make this.
