Don't be scared by the cameras
One of the biggest concerns before applying can be appearing in front of the cameras, but Kaja Belčič, the head of the MasterChef Slovenia project, tells future contestants: "The way you are, the way you will be on TV." Master chef Luka Jezeršek also says that the biggest fear is often the fact that the cameras are on. But once the contestants step into the MasterChef kitchen, they quickly become part of the whole experience.
The beginning is the hardest, everything else comes naturally.
Luka reveals that in past seasons they have seen cases where a candidate was nominated by someone close to them because they didn't have enough courage themselves. They just needed a little push, and then they started discovering a new world, in which they quickly found their way around. "It's great that a contestant enters with an awareness of what exactly their goal is. Everything from there on is actually a reward," says Luka.
MasterChef is not just a test of cooking skills. Through the challenges, the contestants also get to know themselves and find out how they handle themselves under pressure. Kaja warns that entering the show can open completely new doors: "Some people think they'll just come for the prize and that's the end of the story, but in fact their story is just beginning here."
Key tips for future competitors
Kaja explains that the selected candidates are given a list of mandatory cooking skills before the start, so they have time to prepare. Luka, on the other hand, emphasizes confidence in addition to knowledge. It is important that you can confidently step behind the cooking station, present your plate, and explain why you prepared this particular dish.
