How to get there

If you're coming from Madrid or Guadalajara, take the A-2 and exit at junction 101 towards Cifuentes, taking the N-204. If you're coming from Zaragoza, take exit 103. At the exit of Cifuentes, turn left onto the CM-2021 towards Canredondo and Saélices. After about 20 kilometers, turn right towards Sacecorbo on the GU-929 and continue to Ocentejo, where you'll need to park, as this is where our route begins.

Here are the exact coordinates of the start of the route: 40º 46′ 13.53″ N, 2º 23′ 52.63″ W.

The route to the Armallones shipwreck

We begin walking along a completely flat track. After 1 kilometer, there's a fork in the path; take the left-hand trail. From there, a dirt track begins its ascent, so I recommend wearing good shoes to protect your ankles. After this climb, the track runs along the hillside through pine forests, with the crystal-clear waters of the Tagus River to your right, at the bottom of the valley, and a spectacular landscape unfolding before you as soon as you look up.

The most geologically important areas are signposted, with explanations that allow you to better appreciate the formation of the rocks and what the landscape was like before some of them fractured and fell into the river.

The area is very peaceful, with few hikers, at least on the day we were there. If you enjoy birds, bring binoculars because it's a delight to look up and see the majestic flight of many of them.

In the images I'm sharing from the #dronwebos, you can already see that it's an incredibly beautiful place.

We didn't make it to the beautiful Salinas de la Inesperada area. That day in early July was incredibly hot, and we had to turn back to avoid overheating. We'll come back and finish the route.

To finish off the morning, we took a stroll through Cifuentes and had a snack at the kiosk by the pond. It's a town that definitely deserves a more leisurely visit to explore its rich cultural heritage. That's definitely on our list.
