Romantic tarts with strawberry jam: the perfect homemade dessert for Valentine's Day

These tarts are a sure bet for a sweet and charming Valentine's Day. They're easy to make and combine a sweet and soft shortcrust pastry, rich with butter, and a generous strawberry jam filling that becomes even more aromatic and enveloping after baking.

Ingredients · Servings 8
  • 350 g of wheat flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 150 g of sugar
  • 150g of butter (or margarine)
  • 1/2 packet of baking powder (Royal type)
  • Strawberry jam (amount to taste)
Method · 1 h 35 min
  1. Prepare the shortcrust pastry: sift the flour and baking powder into a large bowl. Add the sugar, egg, egg yolk, and softened butter cut into cubes.
  2. Knead until you obtain a smooth dough. Form a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for 45 minutes.
  3. Roll out the dough: take it out and let it sit at room temperature for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 180°C. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface until it is 3–4 mm thick.
  4. Cut the dough to fit the molds. Grease the molds with butter and line them, pressing firmly into the base and sides. Trim off any excess dough. Spread the strawberry jam evenly over the dough.
  5. Gather the dough scraps, roll them out again, and cut out hearts. Place one in the center of each tartlet.
  6. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool completely before serving.
