Homemade basil pesto: the best recipe

- 40g fresh basil leaves
- 55g pine nuts (raw or roasted)
- 50g grated parmesan
- 1 clove of garlic
- 8 tablespoons of olive oil (approximately)

- Grate the Parmesan cheese. Peel the garlic clove, cut it in half and remove the germ.
- Blend the basil, garlic, and pine nuts. Add the Parmesan cheese, olive oil, and lemon juice, and blend for a few more seconds. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- For a pesto pasta dish, keep a small amount of the cooking water to thin the sauce if necessary.
You can toss it with pasta for a quick and classic dish. It's also delicious spread on toast, used as a marinade for grilled meats or vegetables, or added to salads for a touch of Mediterranean flavor. What can be used as a substitute for pine nuts in pesto?
If you don't have pine nuts or would like to substitute them in your pesto, several alternatives are possible. Almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, or even sunflower and pumpkin seeds can be used.
