Meltingly tender baked sweet potato: the best recipe

How to choose a sweet potato for baking?

Ingredients · Servings 4 people
  • 2 sweet potato units
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 lemon unit
  • 1 drizzle of olive oil
  • 1 tbsp parsley
  • 1 knob of butter
Method · 2 min
  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Cut the sweet potatoes in half lengthwise and place them in an ovenproof dish. Squeeze lemon juice over them, drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle with parsley and salt.
  2. Bake for about 1 hour – check for doneness with the tip of a knife: they should be soft. During the last two minutes, dot with butter.

Choose firm sweet potatoes, free of blemishes or damaged parts, and preferably of a similar size so they cook evenly. Medium-sized sweet potatoes are particularly well-suited for baking.

How can you tell if a sweet potato is fully cooked in the oven?

To check if it's cooked, insert the tip of a knife into the center of the sweet potato. It should go in easily and the flesh should be very tender. If it remains firm, continue cooking for a few more minutes and check again.
