Turn Up the Defiant Jazz — The ‘Severance’ Catskills Restaurant Stars Are Hosting a Finale Screening Party
Be ever merry. Owners of the two locations featured in hit-television series Severance — Phoenicia Diner and Eng’s — are throwing an epic finale screening party later this month that the mysterious and important company Lumon would approve of. Praise Kier.
The party is taking place at Kingston venue Assembly on Friday, March 21, beginning at 6 p.m., with the show screening starting at 8 p.m. People can RSVP online; it’s free to attend.
In the Apple TV+ series, Phoenicia Diner serves as Pip’s Bar & Grille, the setting for two scenes in the show. Eng’s stands in for a Chinese restaurant called Zufu in season two (and had shared cute photos of props from the filming).
Phoenica will make waffles (though it remains to be seen whether burlesque dancers wearing masks of Kier Eagan will be involved) and Eng’s will serve its Chinese fare. The event hosts tease activities like the defiant jazz dance-off, the innie and outie costume contest, and themed drinks. Will there be fruit sculptures, egg bars, baby goats, and blue balloons? Time will tell.
Smorgasburg sets opening date
Popular food market Smorgasburg is coming back this spring. The food festival’s first day is on Friday, April 4 within the Oculus in the Financial District. It’ll run every Friday through October. Like previously, co-founders Eric Demby and Jonathan Butler have set up concurrent Smorgasburgs at Williamsburg’s Marsha P. Johnson State Park and Prospect Park’s Breeze Hill.
New Brooklyn restaurant touts late-night hours
A new restaurant with late-night hours is coming to Brooklyn next month. Bar Lumière will open in Cobble Hill at 117 Columbia Street at Kane Street in mid-April. The menu is New American with French tinges. This means dishes like five-cheese fondue, New Orleans barbecued grilled whole prawns, and roasted whole chicken stuffed with foie gras and truffles. There’s a natural wine list and cocktails (including on tap). The restaurant will stay open until 4 a.m. Thursday through Saturday with plans for DJs.
Chef Nicholas Lomba is running the kitchen, who had previously worked at places like Gramercy Tavern, Momofuku Ko, and Alinea. Fab Dupont —who has produced records for big artists like Bad Bunny and Shakira) and artist Nick Farhi — are co-owners.
