Puff pastry Christmas tree

We have another fun Christmas recipe for you, this time a puff pastry Christmas tree. Yes, really, a Christmas tree made of puff pastry. With a delicious homemade pesto topping, yum! That makes it a perfect appetizer for Christmas Eve or for the school Christmas dinner.

Ingredients · Servings 4
  • 1 roll of fresh puff pastry
  • 30 g Grana Padano
  • 30 g pine nuts
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 15 g basil
  • 100 ml olive oil
  • Salt and pepper
Method · 30 min
  1. Start by making the pesto. Toast the pine nuts in a dry frying pan until they are light brown. Wash the basil and remove the leaves from the stems. Peel the garlic cloves and chop them into coarse pieces. Take a food processor and grind the basil leaves, garlic, pine nuts, and 30g of the cheese into a smooth paste. Add the olive oil little by little until the desired consistency is achieved. Season the green pesto with salt and pepper.
  2. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (fan-assisted).
  3. Place the roll of puff pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread 4 tablespoons of pesto on the left half of the puff pastry. Then fold the puff pastry in half.
  4. Now use a knife to cut a Christmas tree shape into the puff pastry. Cut into the tree on both sides to create 'branches'. Then twist these 'branches'. Use the remaining puff pastry to make a small star for the top of the tree.
  5. Optionally, brush the puff pastry Christmas tree with a little egg. Bake the puff pastry Christmas tree until golden brown in 20 minutes. You can serve it either warm or cold.
