Wine traceability: Senate approves amendment to Agriculture Decree
A substantial step forward in optimizing the traceability and transparency of wines in Italy. Federvini, the Confindustria federation of the wine, spirits, and vinegar sector, welcomes the Senate's approval of the so-called Agriculture Decree.
"The amendment approved by the Senate, with the government's approval, marks an important first step," stated Federvini President Micaela Pallini. "It's a wonderful signal that allows us to look with renewed enthusiasm toward the goal of simplifying management costs for wineries, while also ensuring even more effective wine traceability, from the vineyard, thanks to the data in the vineyard register, to the bottle, thanks to the data in the cellar records."
The new development, which emerged during the Senate's legislative process for the Agriculture Decree, follows the MASAF decrees passed a few years ago regarding winery registers and the new vineyard register, envisioning both information on a company's viticultural potential and information related to winery operations in the same digital environment. The connection between the new register and the dematerialized register will allow—among other things—the compilation of the harvest declaration with data already present in the register (information relating to the vineyard) and with that already present in the Register (grapes and musts entering the winery), thus helping to streamline the burden on wine producers.
"Digitalization to simplify" is how Albiera Antinori, President of the Federvini Wine Group, welcomed the news. "We can only express great satisfaction with the measure promoted by Vice President Centinaio. Now everyone is working on the second phase—the operational phase—to modernize our sector, with up-to-date traceability and control systems. This will free up valuable resources to focus on the competitive drive we desperately need to strengthen our position on international markets."
