Coffee Jelly with Ice Cream

Have you tried Japanese Coffee Jelly before? You might have seen an anime character eating it on TV, or if you have been to Japan, you might have seen it next to Purin at convenience stores. Coffee Jelly is a chilled coffee with gelatin, and it’s been a popular dessert in Japan for decades.

Ingredients · Servings 4
  • 1 tbsp gelatin (about 10g)
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 2 cups coffee (480ml)
  • 1 cup vanilla ice cream
Method
  1. In a medium bowl, soak the gelatin in water for a couple of minutes. Add the sugar and hot coffee, and stir until the gelatin is melted.
  2. Transfer to a baking dish or something similar and let cool. Refrigerate until set about 3 to 4 hours.
  3. Spoon the jelly into a glass or a bowl and top with vanilla ice cream.
