The first edition of the Gran Canaria Cheese Bites Competition has been announced at Madrid Fusion Foods of Spain

The first edition of the "Bocados con Queso de Gran Canaria" competition is announced, organized by Turismo de Gran Canaria, through its gastronomic brand Saborea Gran Canaria and with the collaboration of the Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce, which will take place within the framework of Madrid Fusión Alimentos de España 2026.

“Bocados con Queso de Gran Canaria” (Bites with Gran Canaria Cheese) was created with the aim of becoming a leading competition focused on the cheeses of Gran Canaria, an iconic product of extraordinary diversity. The contest will bring together restaurant professionals and students from the sector, both as participants and as judges. Its objective is to recognize those who stand out for their creativity and ability to create unique dishes where Gran Canaria cheeses are the true stars.

In its commitment to culinary talent and the promotion of local products, Gran Canaria Tourism is participating for the first time in Madrid Fusión Alimentos de España 2026 with a variety of activities designed to showcase the versatility of Gran Canaria cheeses in haute cuisine, identify emerging talents, and inspire current chefs. This initiative reinforces the destination's commitment to fostering culinary creativity and promoting the excellence of its products.

Only bite-sized pieces featuring cheese will be accepted in the competition; that is, tapas that can be easily eaten in one bite and made with the cheeses listed below. Miniature dishes will not be accepted. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in disqualification, and the participant will be notified.

Recipes must be submitted with:

  • Full technical specifications: detailed ingredients and manufacturing process.
  • High-resolution photograph (minimum 300 dpi, .jpg format) of the finished dish.
  • Participant identification details: name and surname, email, telephone and workplace (if applicable).

A technical committee appointed by Madrid Fusión Alimentos de España will select the six best recipes received to compete in the final of the competition.

The complete rules of the competition can be found HERE.
