Austin Vegan Restaurant Is Closing in Brentwood
Brentwood vegan restaurant Citizen Eatery is closing. Its last day of service on 5011 Burnet Road will be on Sunday, December 3.
The reason Citizen Eatery is closing is because of it was “unable to navigate the challenges of our ever-changing market,” according to the Instagram post announcing the shutter yesterday. Co-owners Michael and Aimee Moyer tease that there will be something new, writing in the post to “stay tuned for what’s next.” Eater has reached out for more information.
The restaurant served a general New American-ish vegan menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Dishes included items like scrambled eggs, queso, burgers (including the Assam burger with a spiced chickpea-potato-rice patty), sandwiches, nachos, noodles, desserts, and more. There are also cocktails, beers, and wines.
The restaurant is auctioning off its iconic pink rabbit painting by Dallas artist Kendall Rabon, which is hanging in the dining room. The starting bid is $1,500.
The Moyers opened Citizen Eatery in October 2016, originally with vegetarian and vegan options. Before Citizen, the address had been American restaurant 416 Bar & Grille from February 2015 to July 2016 when the Burnet Road complex was brand new.
