Ankarsrum dough mixer, a new concept in quality dough mixers
If you follow me on social media, you'll know that I've been testing and using the Ankarsrum stand mixer for months. I'm obsessed with it, even though the name is hard to remember (Ankarsrum, which comes from the Swedish town where it's made).
If you're interested, you can buy it at this link.
Throughout all my years working with dough I have tried different brands, and what caught my attention about Ankarsrum is that it kneads in reverse and better.
What do you mean it kneads upside down? What I mean is that it's the bowl that moves, since the motor isn't in the arm but in the base. This simplifies two things: adding ingredients and checking the dough's progress. Also, having the motor at the bottom lowers the center of gravity, making the machine more stable.
One of the things I love most about the machine is that it has a spatula that automatically scrapes the dough off the sides and seals it. It's like a dream to watch the dough evolve.
It has a tilting arm to which the kneading roller is easily attached, or a steel hook for more hydrated doughs —I use it less—.
The combination of all these details makes the dough develop very well and gives you greater control over it.
It can knead up to 5 kilos of dough with perfect results, but it also kneads much smaller quantities correctly.
It's remarkable how quiet it is. I'm not particularly sensitive to noisy appliances, but it's true that it's very quiet. This is partly due to the stability I mentioned earlier, which reduces vibration.
The Ankarsrum mixer comes with a significant number of included accessories:
In addition to the accessories that come with the machine, you can purchase many extra accessories, such as the meat grinder, which I consider essential for making my hamburgers or sausages, or another one for making pasta, which we'll look at later. It's also quite interesting how they're used—you'll see, there's a surprise in store!
For those of you who love that small appliances match your kitchen, here's a sneak peek to whet your appetite.
The hole you need to make is 40 cm deep, 27 cm wide and 36 cm high.
My friend Andrés, from El Amasadero, sells it in Spain. He's a very trustworthy person who always asks me to try out his favorite machines.
The Ankarsrum mixer has a 7-year warranty. Andrés always tells me that they're so confident in the machine's durability and power that they offer such a long warranty. Technical service is provided from Málaga, covering both repairs and any necessary parts.
