Weekend to enjoy gastronomy and culture on the Atlantic coast
The event takes place in Baranoa with its First Festival of Dried Pigeon Pea Stew with Pork Rinds.

The agenda begins this Saturday, September 19th and 20th, at the First Festival of Sancocho de Guandú Seco with Chicharrón, with a delicious gastronomic proposal that comes from the countryside and celebrates memory, knowledge and our identity. The matrons of Sibarco, a district of the municipality of Baranoa, will welcome this gastronomic meeting.
The festival will take place on Juan José Nieto Boulevard in Sibarco. Diners will be able to taste this signature dish accompanied by coconut rice and plantain, a preparation that brings together representative flavors of Colombian Caribbean cuisine.
Also available will be traditional products such as pigeon pea rice; mixed pastries, chicken or pork pastries; mazamorra; yucca buns, plain and corn on the cob; as well as tamarind and sesame balls, among other delicacies that are part of the culinary richness of our territory.
“The Dried Pigeon Pea and Pork Rind Sancocho Festival originated in Sibarco as a way to recognize that traditional food also tells the story of a community. Dried pigeon peas, the main ingredient, represent the link between agriculture, cooking, and our collective memory.”

Through these gastronomic encounters, Asosimucas reaffirms that gastronomy is a tool for community development, economic revitalization and tourism integration for the Atlantic.
From Baranoa we move on to the municipality of Santo Tomás, where this Sunday, September 20th, the third annual 'Sancocho and More Festival' will take place. This event will bring together 60 women who will delight approximately 5,000 attendees with their traditional sancochos. From 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Erasmo Coronel Avenue will be the epicenter of this gastronomic event, where visitors can enjoy dishes such as mondongo (tripe stew), huesos (beef bones), cuajo (a type of cheese), trifásico (a mixed stew), rabo (oxtail), costilla (rib), pato (duck), gallina (chicken), and guandú (pigeon pea), among others.
Alongside the festival, starting at 11:00 am, the Intermunicipal Band Meeting will take place.
The program also includes the second Empowered Women Entrepreneurship Fair, located on the boulevard of the same Erasmo Coronel Avenue, where attendees will learn about the creativity and talent of local female entrepreneurs.
The green lung of the Atlantic will also be filled with music and emotion with the performance of singer Julio Rojas.
“The Santo Tomás Sancocho Festival has become a must-attend event to celebrate the flavors and knowledge of traditional Atlantic cuisine. Since its first edition in 2024, 20 matrons participated, an attendance of 4,000 people was projected, and transactions exceeded 30 million pesos. In 2025, the number increased to 35 participating matrons and an expected attendance of more than 8,000 visitors, with sales of 40 million pesos. This year, with more than 5,000 attendees projected, sales of 60 million pesos are expected during the event. To achieve this, we are working collaboratively to ensure that the Sancocho Festival is a space for integration, joy, and culture for everyone.”

We're staying in Santo Tomás for the sixth annual National Porro Negro Festival, which will take place at Parque del Recuerdo starting at 2:00 pm, with free admission. The event will feature groups from Palmar de Varela, Ponedera, Candelaria, Campo de la Cruz, Suan, Sabanagrande, Polonuevo, Baranoa, Galapa, Puerto Colombia, Santo Tomás, Barranquilla, Malambo, and Soledad, as well as invited delegations from the departments of Bolívar and Magdalena.
“There will be 500 artists on stage, in a day designed for the whole family, where Porro Negro will be the main protagonist, accompanied by music, dance, tradition, and cultural exchange. The celebration will also feature special guests such as the Queen of the Barranquilla Carnival 2027, Salwa Maloof Habib, her King Momo, Abraham Cáceres, and the children's king and queen, among other emblematic figures of the Carnival.”
