An Argentinian bakery was chosen as the best artisanal business in its category at the 2026 Bake and Brew Awards, a ceremony organized by the British magazine LUXlife Magazine. The establishment in question is Artiaga, a bakery located in the Saavedra neighborhood of Buenos Aires, at 4782 Zapiola Street.

The award announcement was made on September 9th, where Artiaga stood out for its artisanal work in each of its products. The Bake and Brew Awards 2026 recognize the quality craftsmanship of various coffee shops and bakeries from around the world.

With the first distinction of Heritage Craft Bakery of the Year 2026, the Buenos Aires business received a treat for its long history in the field led by the Rodríguez family, who have run the company for three generations.

How the company was founded

Artiaga was founded by Antonio Rodríguez, who came to Argentina from the Spanish town of Carballino. At that time, at the age of 12, after the death of his father, he assumed the responsibility of managing his family's finances and, therefore, began working as a waiter.

Artiaga's business—under the name La Nueva Alianza—began in the La Boca neighborhood in 1960 with his wife, Alba. At that time, their products were distributed at the Boca Juniors club stadium and also shipped to Martín García Island.

Once established in the business, it was time to move: the family acquired the property located today at 4782 Zapiola Street, where the bakery is currently operating, and they kept the original name of the place—at that time, changing the name of traditional bakeries was discouraged. With the bakery up and running, Antonio and Elba brought their daughter Graciela on board, who left her studies to dedicate herself fully to the day-to-day running of the business.

Today, the business is run by the founder's grandchildren and maintains its distinctive character by keeping the original gas oven operational, adapted to the old structure.
