Stop frying sausages as they will be more succulent if you follow butcher's simple tip

A well-cooked sausage should be deeply golden on the outside, yet juicy and moist on the inside. Here's how to achieve the perfect bite every time.

A simple pack of sausages is often the foundation of a quick midweek meal in many households. At the same time, they make for a great breakfast roll and complement creamy mashed potato and onion gravy beautifully.

A perfectly cooked sausage should be richly browned on the outside, while still remaining succulent and tender within. Although most people reach for the frying pan when cooking sausages, this method doesn't always produce the most juicy results.

Pan-frying sausages often leads to uneven cooking and leaves the hob splattered with grease.

Luckily, there's a far more straightforward approach that results in less mess and better results. The butchers at True Bites recommend cooking sausages in the oven, and The Express writer Angela Patrone agrees - the oven is undoubtedly the better option.

Baking sausages in the oven is without question one of the easiest ways to guarantee they are cooked through evenly, beautifully browned, and ready to serve without the need to stand over a hob.

When cooking sausages in a frying pan, you could easily find yourself spending upwards of 25 to 30 minutes ensuring they are thoroughly cooked.

The oven provides a consistent, all-round heat, meaning sausages cook without the constant need to turn them. You achieve an appealing colour on the outside while keeping mess and effort to a minimum.

While it may not be the quickest approach, this technique is especially practical when preparing a larger batch of sausages in one go. Given that Angela was working with larger sausages, they required approximately 35 minutes in the oven, and she ensured they were turned midway through to achieve an even golden colour on both sides.

How to cook sausages in the oven

To begin, preheat the oven to 180°C fan before preparing the baking tray. Angela prefers to line the tray with foil before arranging the sausages on top.

If your sausages are particularly lean, add a small drizzle of oil. The sausages she was using on this occasion contained enough fat, so additional oil was unnecessary.

Some choose to pierce sausages with a fork, but this simply allows the juices and fat to leak out, potentially leaving them drier.

Then, place the tray in the oven and allow the sausages to cook for 25 to 35 minutes. After roughly 15 minutes, turn the sausages over to ensure they brown on the opposite side.

After a total of 35 minutes, the sausages should be beautifully golden brown on the exterior and thoroughly heated throughout.

Since Angela used foil to line the tray, the washing up was effortless - no scrubbing required, and the sausages did not stick.
