
Sweet Cheese Fritters
Cheese fritters or Jubniyeh are sweet hollow fritters made from a dough with cream cheese.
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 block cream cheese (8oz room temperature)
- 1 1/2 teaspoon dry yeast
- 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup warm water (more or less depends on the dough)
- Oil for frying
- Confectioner’s sugar (simple syrup, chocolate syrup.)
- In a big bowl or your mixer’s bowl, combine dry ingredients well.
- Add cheese and mix.
- Gradually add water while kneading until you get a nice consistent dough that does not stick.
- Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover and let it rise for an hour.
- Roll the dough on a clean surface to about 3-4 mm thickness.
- Cut with cookie cutter to shape of choice.
- Heat 1 inch of oil in a pan and fry the fritters until golden brown, they will puff up as they fry and will be hollow.
- Drizzle hot fritters with cooled simple syrup, honey or dust with powdered sugar.
- Garnish with crushed nuts and serve with fresh fruits is desired.
