They demand urgent measures from the DO Cava regarding grape prices
The Penedès Winegrowers Association (AVP) has submitted an urgent petition to the Regulatory Council of the DO Cava to denounce the low purchase prices of grapes in this campaign, which are between 0.12 and 0.30 euros per kilo.
Faced with this scenario, the entity warns that the lack of profitability puts the continuity of viticulture in the territory at risk, favors the abandonment of crops and hinders generational succession. For this reason, the AVP has called on the Regulatory Council to intervene on the batches made with grapes purchased below cost and demands a formal response within 15 working days, without prejudice to studying other actions if a solution is not obtained.
Beyond the current campaign, the sector is calling for a framework of greater transparency and foresight, with clear rules that allow market conditions to be known before starting the harvest to prevent this situation from repeating in the future.
