Mackerel and sardine packages with QR codes that lead to a personalized meal plan
Well-being also begins at the table, and oily fish can play an important role in a diet inspired by the Mediterranean Diet. From this premise, Delicius's Longevity Nutrition Program was born, a project that brings together scientific research, nutrition education, and gastronomic culture to enhance the nutritional properties of mackerel and sardines. Delicius, the nutrition program dedicated to longevity
The project, also presented in Delicius's Scientific Bulletin #02, is a collaboration with the National Institute for Cardiovascular Research (INRC). The goal is to connect product nutritional information with tools that can help consumers make informed daily food choices, with an approach inspired by the principles of the Mediterranean Diet.
"Longevity was born from the desire to go beyond the product and transform the nutritional value of bluefish into a concrete project for people," says Irene Rizzoli, CEO of Delicius.
"Together with the National Institute for Cardiovascular Research, we've developed a program that combines nutrition, scientific knowledge, and personalized tools. We want to continue developing it in this direction: making wellness and awareness of dietary prevention easy to integrate into everyday life. This program also reflects the renewed interest in oily fish on our tables."
QR code and personalized nutritional plan
One of the features of the Longevity Nutrition Program is the direct link between packaging and digital content. Through the QR code on the packaging, consumers can access a free program developed with the scientific support of INRC. After a short lifestyle questionnaire, they are offered a personalized weekly nutritional plan, accompanied by wellness tips and materials.
The packaging thus also becomes a point of access to a nutritional information and guidance service. The experience is therefore not limited to the characteristics of the individual product, but seeks to integrate fish consumption into broader habits, with recommendations designed for everyday life.
Delicius Mackerel Fillets: Omega-3 and Protein
Among the products included in the program are Mackerel Fillets in Olive Oil. Delicius uses the Scomber colias species, selected for its fillets and naturally rich in Omega-3. The fish is caught in the open sea and processed to achieve a meaty, firm texture. Preserving in olive oil helps maintain its tenderness and flavor.
Mackerel is also a source of protein and various micronutrients. The Delicius recipe book features a simple recipe: whole-wheat toast with avocado and mackerel, with the fish arranged on avocado slices after toasting the bread.
Sardines in olive oil, another blue fish
The program also includes sardines in olive oil, obtained from specimens of the Sardina pilchardus species, caught in the open sea and not farmed. Nutritionally, sardines provide high biological value proteins, omega-3s, and calcium.
The recipe calls for just a few ingredients and uses preservative-free olive oil to preserve the flavor and texture of the fish. Among the suggestions in the recipe book are whole-wheat fusilli with sun-dried tomato and black olive pesto, where sardines become the signature ingredient.
With the Longevity Nutrition Program, Delicius brings bluefish into a project that combines product, scientific content, and digital tools. The initiative aims to highlight the role of nutrition in everyday life, starting with familiar Mediterranean products and complementing them with information and recipes designed for informed consumption.
