Bland tofu? Never again! 🤤 Try this easy grilled tofu recipe
This grilled tofu is one of those basic recipes that's perfect when you want to prepare tofu simply, but still have it turn out really tasty. If you've ever tried it and found it bland, the key here is to drain it well, slice it, and cook it until it's golden brown on the outside and tender on the inside.
- 400 g de tofu
- 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil (and a little more to grease the griddle or pan)
- ¾ teaspoon of paprika (I use La Vera paprika)
- ¾ teaspoon of garlic powder
- ⅛ teaspoon of salt
- ⅛ teaspoon of black pepper
- Chimichurri sauce (for serving, optional)
- Dry the tofu thoroughly with a clean cloth or paper towel to remove excess water. If you want it to be firmer and brown better, wrap it in the cloth or paper towel, place something heavy on top, and let it rest for 15 to 30 minutes, but this isn't essential.
- Cut the tofu into 3 slices of similar thickness so that they cook evenly.
- Add the olive oil over the tofu and spread it well on both sides with your hands or a kitchen brush.
- Mix the paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Sprinkle the mixture over the tofu and gently rub it in with your hands to coat it well on all sides.
- Heat a griddle, grill pan, or regular frying pan over medium-high heat and grease it lightly if necessary.
- Cook the tofu for 4-5 minutes per side, without moving it at first, until golden brown marks form and it easily releases from the pan. Serve with chimichurri or your favorite sauce.
The recipe is prepared with a block of tofu, a little extra virgin olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. You can cook it in a frying pan, on a griddle, or even on the grill if you're having a barbecue, and it's especially delicious served with chimichurri, although you can also serve it with your favorite sauce or a squeeze of lemon.
You can enjoy it freshly made with rice, salad, grilled vegetables, or potatoes, or use it as a plant-based protein in bowls, wraps, sandwiches, and simple everyday dishes. It also keeps well in the refrigerator for several days, making it a very practical recipe to prepare in advance and have tofu ready to add to your meals throughout the week.
