Ouch! This Customer Escaped Without Paying Rp5.9 Million After Being Ignored
Jakarta -
A customer shared her experience dining at an Italian restaurant. She claimed the waiter was unfriendly throughout the meal, to the point where she didn't pay her Rp 5.9 million bill!
When dining at a restaurant, customers expect not only delicious food but also excellent service. This means that the waitstaff will be sincere, friendly, and non-discriminatory.
Unfortunately, not all customers have a good experience when dining at restaurants. Many end up dissatisfied due to poor service.
A customer recently shared such a bad experience while dining at an Italian restaurant. As reported by Money Control (September 27), an anonymous Reddit user revealed that he had dinner with his children at what he described as a "moldy restaurant" located in Pisa, Italy.
He described the service while dining there as terrible. He also described the restaurant staff as rude and spending time chatting and smoking instead of serving him.
After finishing their meal, the anonymous customer said they tried to ask for the bill, but were ignored by a waiter.
"I asked for the bill and one of them looked directly at me, then went back to chatting with another waiter," she wrote in the caption.
The Reddit user claims he immediately approached the staff but was told to return to his table and wait for another member of staff to bring the bill. Even after waiting another 30 minutes, no bill arrived. "I just got up and left," he explained.
This customer revealed that in the end he did not pay the meal bill, which was known to be worth $330 or around Rp. 5.9 million.
Initially, he was worried about the consequences of leaving the Italian restaurant without paying the bill. But once again, none of the waiters seemed to care.
Her post quickly drew mixed reactions from netizens. Some shared similar experiences of not paying their meal bills because restaurant staff didn't bring the bill to the table.
One netizen recounted her experience at a restaurant in Manhattan. She described the excellent service, even after she finished her meal. However, her table was seemingly forgotten, resulting in her not receiving her bill.
"We repeatedly asked for the bill from several staff members, but no one returned with it. After about an hour, we pretended to leave in the hope that someone would finally bring the bill. Instead, everyone just said goodbye and wished us a good night," this netizen said.
Some have also compared the experience to the payment system commonly used in British pubs. In the UK, they say, the payment system is controlled, where customers order and pay immediately, so there's no such thing as leaving the restaurant without paying the bill.
"This is why I love British pubs. You order, you pay. You get your food. You leave when you're done," said this netizen.
On the other hand, from the perspective of a former restaurant worker, it seems that many restaurants unknowingly let customers go home without paying their food bill, especially in restaurants that are busy.
