Rafa Zafra feels right at home

Rafa Zafra continues his unstoppable rise. To the eight restaurants he already has open between Barcelona and Madrid, he now adds Casa de Comidas, located in the NH Collection Madrid Eurobuilding hotel (where Zafra also owns Bikini, a tapas and sandwich shop), a concept based on the memory of accompanying his father in his truck to enjoy roadside eateries.

Following their culinary philosophy based on the best seasonal produce, sometimes presented with a touch of sophistication, the menu features starters such as Cantabrian coastal anchovies with bread and tomato, Russian salad with tuna belly and pickled peppers, or roasted leek with hazelnut praline and black olive vinaigrette.

It continues with a section of soups and creams (Cordoban salmorejo with ham and grapes or pumpkin cream, crème fraîche and croutons) and another of stews such as stewed lentils with foie gras and baby squid, verdinas with seasonal mushrooms or white asparagus with its pilpil and citrus.

Eggs and pasta take center stage, from huevos a la flamenca to macaroni a la cardinale, but the emphasis is on fish, the specialty of the Sevillian chef: hake tacos Roman style with tartar sauce, confit skate with Mediterranean pickle vinaigrette and confit cod loins with spinach and pine nuts.

For carnivores, the menu includes, among other dishes, beef and pork meatballs with black trumpet mushrooms, Iberian pork cheeks braised in red wine with mashed potatoes, and shoulder of kid goat with caramelized shallots.

The desserts, made in the restaurant, are presented on a cart so that the customer can choose between rice pudding, egg custard and vanilla or chocolate cake.

Casa de Comidas, with an average ticket price of 50 euros, has a terrace and a room with an open kitchen and high and low tables, as well as several private rooms.
