Our grandmothers' desserts, which we love again today

In the era of modern cakes and viral desserts from social networks, more and more people are returning to recipes that smell of homeliness and childhood. Our grandmothers' desserts are becoming popular again, as they impress with simple ingredients, rich taste and a warm feeling of nostalgia.

They were once made from whatever was at hand: eggs, cottage cheese, apples, nuts and jam or homemade dough. And it is precisely in this simplicity that their charm lies. Some of our grandmothers' desserts are now being revived by younger generations who appreciate home cooking and authentic flavors.

We present seven desserts that have been known for decades, but are a real hit again today.

Rice sprout

Once a common dessert or even a standalone meal, today it is conquering kitchens again. Golden brown creamy rice is often complemented with raisins, grated apples, cottage cheese, lemon zest or fruit dressing. Many people still associate it with the smell of school kitchens and grandmother's home. The recipe is HERE.

Apple strudel

Classic strudel remains one of the most popular homemade desserts. Juicy apples, cinnamon, and crispy dough create a combination that almost never disappoints. It is delicious warm or cold, and is often served with vanilla sauce or a scoop of ice cream. The recipe is HERE.

Sponge cake with jam

A simple cake from a baking sheet, spread with sour cream and homemade jam, and sprinkled with powdered sugar or coconut, is one of those desserts that almost everyone knows. Its simplicity has made it popular again, especially with afternoon coffee. The recipe is HERE.

Marble cake

The classic vanilla and cocoa cake from the baking sheet is a real nostalgia. Due to its simple ingredients and quick preparation, it remains popular even today, especially with a cup of coffee or tea. The recipe is HERE.

Yogurt cake with fruit

One of the simplest homemade pastries, where the ingredients are often measured with a yogurt cup, and the light dough is optionally supplemented with fresh fruit or fruit from compote. The pastry is ideal for every day, and is especially popular in the summer, when we have an abundance of fresh seasonal fruit available, such as cherries, apricots and plums. The recipe is HERE.

Cottage cheese pie

Among the desserts that we have known for decades, cottage cheese pie is certainly one of them – a simple homemade dessert made from shortcrust pastry and a rich cottage cheese filling. The dessert is just the right amount of cream, gently refreshing thanks to the lemon zest, and great with a cup of coffee or tea. It is best served well chilled and lightly sprinkled with powdered sugar. The recipe is HERE.

Yeast croissants with walnuts or jam

Soft, homemade croissants were once a staple at holidays and family gatherings. Today, they're making a comeback, mostly because of the rich flavor and homey feel that store-bought pastries can't quite match. You can find the recipe for delicious walnut croissants HERE.
