Surprise your picnic guests with a quick dessert recipe from a MasterChef contestant

Summer is the time for picnics, outdoor gatherings, and the unmistakable smell of barbecue. When planning a menu for such occasions, we usually focus on the choice of meat, fish, or vegetables and delicious side dishes. But every good meal deserves a sweet ending.

A great idea was entrusted to us by Natalija Sebanc, whom we met on the cooking show MasterChef Slovenia. She prepared grilled peaches, which are considered a simple but very effective dessert that combines summer flavors and outdoor preparation. The main role is played by juicy peaches, which on a hot grill acquire a pleasant caramelized aroma and even more pronounced sweetness. They are served with a delicately spiced cream and sprinkled with chopped nuts, which add a pleasant crunch to the dessert.

The contrast between the warm, lightly toasted peaches and the cool, creamy accompaniment creates the perfect balance of flavors and textures. It's also very practical to serve. Arrange the peaches on a large serving platter, add dollops of cream and chopped nuts, and place it in the center of the table for guests to serve themselves. The result is a simple, elegant, and quintessentially summery treat that will make a sweet highlight of any picnic.

Grilled peaches

Ingredients:

- 500 g peaches

- 2 tablespoons olive oil

- 2 teaspoons of honey

- half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon

- half a teaspoon of ground cardamom

- a pinch of salt

Halve the peaches and remove the pits. In a bowl, mix the halved peaches with a tablespoon of olive oil, honey, cinnamon, cardamom, and a pinch of salt. Let stand at room temperature for 15 minutes before grilling.

Place the spiced peaches, cut side down, on a hot, oiled grill and grill for 2-3 minutes, just enough to soften and caramelize the peaches when they touch the grill.

Sour cream

Ingredients:

- 150 ml of sweet cream

- 2 vanilla sugars

- half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon

- half a teaspoon of ground cardamom

- 2 tablespoons sour cream

Add vanilla sugar and spices to the sweet cream. Start whipping and when the cream starts to thicken, add the sour cream. Whip until the cream thickens to stiff peaks.

Serving tip

Serve the baked peaches immediately after removing them from the grill, as they are best while still warm. Arrange the peach halves on a serving plate, top each with a spoonful of cream and sprinkle with chopped nuts.

For a more relaxed picnic atmosphere, you can place the dessert on a larger communal plate in the middle of the table for guests to serve themselves. The contrast between the warm peaches, cool cream, and crunchy nuts makes for the perfect summer treat.
