Everyone's Making This Drink During a Heat Wave: It's Made in Just 5 Minutes
During heat waves, we're looking for easy ways to cool down, especially ones that can be made in minutes. Among the recipes that have been taking social media and summer drink lovers by storm this year is whipped lemonade.
What is whipped lemonade anyway?
Its biggest advantage is that it doesn't require many ingredients or special cooking skills. Simply pour everything into a blender and in less than five minutes you have a frothy, creamy, and ice-cold drink that is pleasantly refreshing even on the hottest part of the day.
The basic version contains only freshly squeezed lemon juice, ice cubes, and sweetened condensed milk, but many also prepare it with the addition of sweet cream or vanilla ice cream, which provides an even richer texture and a slightly sweeter taste.
Ingredients:
- 120 ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 200 g sweetened condensed milk
- 2 cups of ice
Preparation:
Put ice cubes in a blender.
Add lemon juice and sweetened condensed milk.
Blend for about 30 to 60 seconds to create a smooth, frothy, and creamy drink.
Immediately pour the whipped lemonade into glasses and serve.
For an even creamier version, add sweet cream to the drink. Approx.
100 ml of sweet cream will provide a richer and more velvety texture, reminiscent of a refreshing milkshake. If you want a lighter drink, just
50 ml of cream, but for a particularly luxurious version you can increase the amount to
150 ml. In this case, slightly reduce the amount of sweetened condensed milk so that the drink is not too sweet. Add the cream just before the end of mixing so that the whipped lemonade remains light and pleasantly foamy.
Ingredients:
- 80 ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2-3 tablespoons of sugar (to taste)
- 80 ml ice water
- 500 g vanilla ice cream
Preparation:
Pour the lemon juice, sugar, and cold or ice water into a blender. Blend until the sugar dissolves.
Add the ice cream to the blender. Blend until the ingredients combine into a creamy mixture.
Divide the mixture into glasses and serve immediately. Garnish with a lemon slice or mint leaves, if desired.
Preparation tips:
- Use freshly squeezed lemon juice: Freshly squeezed juice provides the most aromatic flavor and a pleasant balance between sweetness and acidity.
- Adjust the amount of sweetness to your taste: If you prefer more refreshing drinks, use a little less condensed milk or choose ice cream with less sugar.
- Prepare the drink just before serving: Because it contains a lot of ice, it is best immediately after preparation, when it is still nicely foamy and ice-cold.
- Use coconut condensed milk for a non-dairy or vegan version: Since coconut condensed milk has a slightly more pronounced flavor, it pairs especially well with lemon, lime, and other refreshing summer citrus fruits. For a completely vegan version, also use plant-based cream or vegan vanilla ice cream.
- Add fresh herbs: Mint or lemon balm leaves go perfectly with the lemon flavor and make the drink even more refreshing.
- Try fruit variations too: You can add a handful of raspberries, strawberries, or mangoes to the blender for a fruity version that's perfect for hot summer days.
This ice-cold drink is a great choice for days when temperatures exceed 30 degrees. It combines the freshness of a classic lemonade with the creamy texture of a milkshake, and it's so quick to make that you can make it anytime you're craving something sweet and refreshing.
