Italian sandwich with mortadella, burrata and pesto
How can I make this Italian sandwich even tastier?
- 1 baguette
- 3 teaspoons of green pesto
- 4 slices of Italian mortadella
- 1 handful of arugula
- 4 sun-dried tomatoes
- 200 g of burrata
- A splash of extra virgin olive oil
- A splash of balsamic vinegar
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 1 handful of chopped pistachios
- We cut the baguette lengthwise, without completely separating the two halves, so we can open it like a book. We spread the bottom half with the green pesto.
- We place the slices of mortadella on top, slightly overlapping, until the bread is well covered.
- We spread a good handful of arugula leaves over the mortadella.
- We add the sun-dried tomatoes, distributing them over the entire surface so that they appear in every bite.
- We lightly drain the burrata, open it and spread it over the filling.
- We dress the burrata with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, a few drops of balsamic vinegar and some freshly ground black pepper.
- We close the sandwich and, if we want to give it a more special touch, we finish it with chopped pistachios before serving. And that's it!
You can add other Italian-inspired ingredients, such as black olives, roasted peppers, or grilled zucchini.
What's the best way to preserve the leftovers from this sandwich?
It's best to store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Even so, it's best to eat it as soon as possible so the bread doesn't lose its texture and the filling stays fresh.
Can this sandwich be prepared in advance?
Yes. You can prepare all the ingredients in advance and assemble the sandwich just before serving, thus preventing the bread from getting soggy.
What side dishes go well with this sandwich?
A light green salad or some vegetable chips are good options to accompany it without overshadowing it.
Can this sandwich be adapted to a vegetarian diet?
Yes. You can substitute the mortadella with a plant-based deli meat like ham, or simply remove it and enhance the filling with more roasted vegetables, such as eggplant, burrata, arugula, and pistachios.
