Vegetarian sausage rolls

Ingredients for 8 people

Ingredients · Servings 8
  • 1 large sheet of puff pastry
  • 300 g vegetarian mince (uncooked)
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tl sambal
  • 1 egg (+ 1 egg for brushing)
  • A handful of breadcrumbs
  • Salty
  • Black sesame seeds (for garnish)
Method · 30 min
  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (fan-assisted).
  2. Divide the sheet of puff pastry in two. To do this, cut the sheet of puff pastry in half lengthwise.
  3. Mix the minced meat with the garlic, soy sauce, sambal, 1 egg, breadcrumbs, and salt. If the minced meat is too wet, add an extra handful of breadcrumbs. To check if your minced meat is seasoned enough, fry a small piece in the pan.
  4. Roll the vegetarian mince into 2 long sausages. Place each in the middle of a strip of puff pastry. Optionally, you can pipe the vegetarian mince onto the dough using a piping bag with a wide nozzle.
  5. Brush the bottom of the strip with the beaten egg. Fold the top of the puff pastry over the vegetarian mince. Press the dough down and prick with a fork. Brush the dough with a layer of egg yolk.
  6. Garnish the puff pastry with black sesame seeds. Regular sesame seeds or poppy seeds work too, of course.
  7. Cut the puff pastry into 4 equal pieces. Bake the vegetarian sausage rolls for 20 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius. Cover the sausage rolls halfway through if they start to get too dark.
