Culinary treasures of iconic restaurants in Paris

What happens to the plates, tablecloths, cutlery, bowls, and other small and large furnishings of top French restaurants when they decide it's time for a change?

The idea for the La Vaisselle des Chefs initiative was born 15 years ago, with the aim of giving a second life to those great everyday objects that have already served their time under the hands of the previous owner. According to the organizers, there are many treasures hidden - even for several generations - in attics and on hidden storage shelves, which it is time to make part of the cycle.

The concept is not unknown to the public in Lyon, Alsace and Bordeaux, in fact. But this is the first time that the chefs' favorite sale event is coming to Paris. The organizers believe that part of France's gastronomic heritage and spirit lies in these discarded porcelains, glasses, textiles, and clanking metals...

Their goal is to make these pieces affordable, and they donate a portion of their proceeds to charity. For the February event in Paris, the charity chosen was Apprentis d'Auteuil, a non-profit organization that supports the education and integration of young people in difficult situations.

Whether you're a chef, a ceramic enthusiast, or just a home cook, the City of Lights will have the opportunity to sneak a bit of haute cuisine equipment into your home or business on February 8-9. As for me, I'd be most interested in the ceramics of three-Michelin-starred chef Anne-Sophie Pic, but as tradition dictates, it's worth arriving at a second-hand fair with no plans, but with a keen eye!

Date: February 8-9, 2025 (Saturday 10 am-7 pm and Sunday 10 am-5 pm)

Location: Césure (13 Rue Santeuil, 75005 Paris)
