Fashion Icon Giorgio Armani Has Opened a New Restaurant

Some of the city’s buzziest restaurants are giving new meaning to the word fashionable: On Monday, style icon Giorgio Armani opened an updated version of his restaurant within his new 12-story limestone flagship at 760 Madison Avenue.

It follows the debut of one from Louis Vuitton.

The restaurant opens on the heels of the debut of Louis Vuitton’s first U.S. cafe led by Stephen Starr and French toque Christophe Bellanca — a restaurant with golden doors at the entrance, an oversized giraffe sculpture, and signature trunks stacked to the ceiling, heralding its arrival on 57th Street, a stone’s throw from Ralph Lauren’s Polo Bar and L’Avenue at Saks.

Located on the first floor, the entrance of Armani/Ristorante — open for lunch and dinner — has a five-seat Champagne bar and oversized windows that overlook Madison Avenue. Apart from the main dining room, there is a forty-seat mezzanine with a wine rack filled with hundreds of bottles, a personal collection of Armani’s books and trinkets, and a bird’s eye view of the action downstairs.

The restaurant will serve a tasting menu lunch of two, three, or four courses from corporate chef of Armani restaurants, Antonio D’Angelo, as well as a la carte options. Among the starters, which range from $35 to $55, there’s steak tartare with saffron crumble and bone marrow; Maine lobster with grapefruit and sabayon; and cuttlefish with marinara reduction.

There are plenty of pastas ($39-$41), including guinea fowl bottoni with pine nuts and black truffle; cannelloni with Parmesan and crispy kale; and linguine with razor clams and peperone crusco. All these can be topped with shaved truffles for an extra $70.

Apart from branzino, another fish entree is Spanish mackerel with mussels and artichokes; beef is served with green peppercorn and carrots; and chicken comes with with red pepper and shio koji; and eggplant is made with mozzarella and datterino jus. Entrees are in the $50 to $60 range.

Desserts ($21-$23) include a simple dish of wild strawberries with meringue and whipped cream as well as chestnuts, hazelnuts, and chocolate; and a lemon soufflé.

Drinks include an Amethyst Negroni with Blue Butterfly tea-infused gin, Luxardo Bitter Bianco and Americano Cocchi; and an Antarctic Martini, intensely chilled, with a drop of Sicilian olive oil.
