Update the hit treat of yesteryear! Warm breads in three ways
The oven-baked sandwich now has new delicious toppings. Choose your favorite from the trio or try them all!
Update the hit treat of yesteryear, the oven-baked sandwich, to a more contemporary level. Load the bread with the flavors of a Greek salad, bake it as a pizza substitute, or layer it as a salmon version of a croque monsieur.
1. Salmon version of the classic
The French croque monsieur, or ham and cheese bread, is the absolute nobility of warm layered breads. In this version, the ham is replaced by gravy salmon. Aromatic Dijon mustard is spread between the breads and white sauce is spread in addition to the cheese. A short time in the oven, and a hearty winter comfort food is ready.
Serve the bread with a green salad and a fried egg on top or sliced avocado as a side dish.
2. Relief from pizza cravings
Are you craving pizza, but making the dough seems overwhelming? Instead of a pizza crust, grab some toast or country bread from the bread box and combine the flavors of the pizza on top.
This pizza toast tastes like the toppings of a fiery diavola pizza, namely tomato sauce, nduja paste and mozzarella. In addition to the fresh version, nduja is also available in a handy can, which is sold in many large supermarkets.
3. Feta salad flavors
Greek salad belongs in the summer like a lollipop in a child's hand, but in winter, you can combine the flavors of the salad into warm bread if you wish.
Place feta cheese, tomato and olives on the rustic bread. Bake in the oven until the feta is slightly warmed.
Borrow a spoonful of pesto from Italy and spread it on bread with herbs and cucumber. Finish with oregano if you like.
