The Best Dishes Eater Dallas Ate in September
1601 Elm St., Suite 110
A lingering lunch at this new Downtown spot included half of a Tower Club, which was recommended by our waiter and was such a yummy call that we wouldn’t have ordered on our own, and half of a morta and pesto, made with pistachio pesto that was so good. It was accompanied by glasses of natural wine, the only type this spot serves.
3219 Knox St., Suite 170
There were so many great bites from this menu — ordering from only the left side was a good move, and with three dishes, very filling. This plate of spicy lumache arrabbiata with broccolini and tomato sauce was especially memorable.
1804 McMillan Ave.
The city’s most lauded burger can now be found at High Fives on Tuesday through Sunday in the evening. The original has a double patty, cheese, pickles, and “burger sauce” — if you ask nicely, owner Dave Culwell will probably tell you what’s in it.
5016 Miller Ave.
Olive oil cake lovers — heck, cake lovers in general — need to order this. It’s so moist, dense, and rich with flavor but beautifully simple. This slice was consumed with a glass of sherry at the behest of the bar staff.
300 Reunion Blvd. East
There’s a new brunch in town. This smoked bacon, egg, lettuce, and tomato sandwich on house-made bread was only one part of what made up brunch — its service is part buffet style, with a main course made to order. There’s a sushi bar, steak carving station, bagel bar, and desserts galore.
