A Scottish distillery celebrates its bicentenary with a whisky valued at 10 million guilders

Only 200 hand-numbered anniversary edition decanters will be produced, with a suggested price of £20,000.

The Old Pulteney anniversary edition features a 50-year-old single malt whisky that has matured primarily in American oak casks, with a final maturation in European oak. According to the distillery, this combination gives it a special depth and sophistication.

Its aromas include the salty touch of the sea breeze, plum jam, orange marmalade on toast, leather, tobacco, caramel, vanilla, and cardamom. It is bottled at 40.8% alcohol by volume.

The packaging is also part of the offering. The handcrafted Glencairn glass bottle features sandblasted wave motifs, a nod to the distillery's coastal location and the character the brand defines as The Maritime Malt. The wooden gift box, created by Morans Wood Components, renowned for its high-quality packaging, is inspired by driftwood that washes up on Scottish shores.

The collection also includes a 30-year-old single malt whisky, of which 1,000 bottles will be produced, with a suggested retail price of £1,750. Matured in American oak and then European oak, it presents aromas of candied almonds, fruity notes, caramel, sea breeze, and leather, while on the palate salted caramel, warm spices, and delicate floral nuances predominate. It reaches 50.4% ABV, higher than the 50-year-old version.

The commemorative edition aims to evoke both the distillery's two hundred years and the coastal character that defines all its whiskies. According to the producers, each cask has its own personality, so the biggest challenge was selecting batches that, together, told the distillery's story.
