I Love How Much Glen Powell Loves Brisket (the Puppy)

Everyone knows (or at least they should) that the best names for pets are food names. And it makes sense that the Austin-born-and-raised actor would name his dog after Texas’s favorite smoked meat. Powell even moved back to the city since it’s such a dog-friendly place.

Powell adopted Brisket, a terrier-poodle mix, from Los Angeles animal rescue organization the Labelle Foundation in July 2023. This was when he was filming the loose sequel to the 1996 film Twister in Oklahoma and going through a breakup, as he shared with Entertainment Weekly. Powell set up an Instagram account, the aptly named @hotbrisket, where he shares cute photos of the pup and many punny captions.

It’s evident how much Powell loves Brisket. The puppy immediately became part of the Twisters film set, he often posts photos (some shirtless, some just adorable) with his furry friend, and they even have matching cowboy hats. Brisket was so much part of the film crew that he attended the Los Angeles premiere of the film while being carried by his owner — living that sweet pet life. But Powell also loves brisket (even if he’s more of a “ribs guy”). “You’re truly having the best barbecue in Austin,” he said about Franklin Barbecue in a video shot at South Congress diner Toasty Badger for Netflix while promoting another film of his, Hit Man (directed by also-Austinite Richard Linklater).

We still have so many questions about Brisket, though. Has he eaten brisket? What’s his favorite Austin barbecue restaurant? Has Brisket tried his namesake dish at Franklin Barbecue? Is he also a fan of ribs, because, you know, bones? Is he for or against barbecue sauce? Has he run around a dog-friendly brewery?

Even if we never get answers to our hard-hitting questions, we at least know that, like his human caregiver, Brisket is a Texan at heart.
