Come Early to This Harvard Square Cafe for Fun Lattes and Breakfast Burritos

Circus Cooperative Cafe is truly a cozy coffee shop, a little outside Harvard Square, that’s comfortable and charming. And even better: it’s worker-owned and operated. The team serves coffee, tea, espresso drinks, and a full menu of breakfast and lunch sandwiches.

What to order

  • The maple miso latte ($5.50) blends a seasonal New England favorite with a bit of umami for a sip that’s perfect for people who never want their dessert too sweet.
  • Fuel up in the morning with the jam-packed Trapeze breakfast burrito ($13), a flour tortilla stuffed with scrambled eggs, cheddar, pork sausage, onion, shredded potato, and Cholula hot sauce. There’s also a vegan version available.
  • For an alternative to the ubiquitous matcha latte, try the rooibos latte ($4.50). Rooibos is a South African tea that gives the latte a woodier, nuttier flavor, which can be paired with any milk and syrup, including the earlier-mentioned maple miso syrup.

The vibe

Circus Cooperative Cafe is a popular spot, and seats fill up quickly. If you’re lucky enough to get there early, you can snag a seat on one of two cozy couches that are perfect for reading, catching up with friends, or playing one of the many board games on hand. There are also a number of cafe tables for a more traditional dining experience.

Insider tip

The pastry selection, brought in from Lionheart Confections, is another reason to hit this spot early in the day. The shop quickly sells out of almond croissants, kouign aman, vegan muffins, and gluten-free miniature donuts.
