The Best Place to Dine on the Boston Waterfront With a Side of Seafood

When alfresco dining season finally arrives, it feels like all of Boston is crowding sidewalks, parklets, and patios to dine and drink outside.

For a restaurant inside the Boston Harbor Hotel, the food is surprisingly good, especially the seafood, which is always fresh and high quality. It books up fast for the holidays, when they offer a luxurious buffet.

What to order

  • The whipped Spanish feta ($16) comes with an absurd amount of warm baguette to dip in the salty cheese, topped with harissa in oil.
  • This is one of our favorite Caesar salads ($18) in town (we’re not traditionalists), with baby gem lettuce and hearts of palm topped with incredibly crisp Parmesan fricco. Be advised: there are no anchovies in sight.
  • The only thing the restaurant does to the Maine crab cocktail ($25) is take it out of the shell and deliver it to your table with cocktail and hot sauce, exactly as it should be.
  • Every hotel restaurant should have a very good burger, and that’s exactly what you’re getting ($33). Topped with rich brie from Vermont, bacon, and a house-made sauce, it gets the job done.

The vibe

Inside, the mood is quiet and casual, with a nautical theme and an energy that would put almost anyone at ease. Outdoors is where the party is at in the summer, and what we recommend the most during warmer days.
