Gabriela Sarmiento from Panama wins the Latin American phase of the San Pellegrino Young Chef

Gabriela Sarmiento, a young Panamanian chef at Canal Bistrot in the Marriott Hotel in Panama City, has won the Latin American phase of the San Pellegrino Young Chef competition, a global contest that seeks to discover the culinary talents of the future.

Fifteen young chefs from Latin America participated in the regional phase held last Tuesday in Lima. The winner will join the winners of the other 14 regional phases in the final, which will take place next year in Milan.

The participants in the final were the Brazilians Pedro Coronha and Marcella Falco, the Paraguayan Ana Paulina Guillen, Miguel José Berrio and Adrián Gil representing Colombia, the Argentinians Daniela Espinoza and Marcelo Saccone, Kenneth Ruiz from Costa Rica, Enrique Fajardo from Panama, Javiera Palacios, Sebastián Mella and Pablo Ramírez from Chile, Rodrigo Pacheco representing Mexico and Rafael Bayona from Peru.
