To prepare them you'll need puff pastry (which you can make at home), sausages, mustard, mozzarella cheese, egg, sesame seeds, salt, and pepper. A touch of garlic powder and oregano adds more flavor to the filling without complicating the preparation.

Tips for preparing this recipe
- Keep the puff pastry cold until ready to use so that it retains its texture better.
- Don't put in too much cheese, because it may spill out during cooking.
- Dry the sausages with kitchen paper before using them if they are too moist.
- Don't overload the dough with mustard or other sauces.
- Seal the ends and the seam of the puff pastry well to prevent it from opening in the oven.
- Place the rolls with the seam facing down so they maintain their shape.
- The beaten egg should cover the surface evenly to achieve a golden finish.
- Do not pile the rolls on the tray; leave space between them for hot air to circulate.
- Keep an eye on it during the last few minutes of cooking, as puff pastry can brown quickly.
- Wait a few minutes before cutting them so the cheese settles and the filling isn't too hot.
What type of dough is used to make sausage rolls?
Puff pastry is one of the most practical options because it becomes crispy and light when baked. You can also use shortcrust pastry or homemade dough, although the result will be different.
Can you make sausage rolls with chicken sausages?
Yes. You can use chicken, turkey, pork, or even vegetarian sausages. The important thing is to choose a sausage with good flavor and adjust the cooking time according to the type of sausage used.
