“They've never made empanadas before!”: Karina Álvarez's unusual mistake sparked laughter live on air
A funny moment was experienced on CHV Noticias, after Karina Álvarez surprised her colleagues with a particular explanation on how to prepare empanadas.
It all happened during a live report from Recoleta, where a journalist was talking to people who were buying dough to prepare this classic Independence Day treat.
In that context, a woman said she would buy 250 pastries, a comment that led the host to make an unexpected calculation.
“Hey, with 250 they’re still going to be a bit cramped… you also have to take into consideration that for one empanada you need two doughs,” Karina Álvarez pointed out.
“Of course, one to put the filling in and another to cover it,” he added.
His colleague Carlos Grage tried to follow his explanation and commented: "Ah, right, when the empanada is bigger."

Far from doubting her technique, the journalist continued to defend her idea in front of her colleagues.
“They’ve never made empanadas in their lives, gentlemen! That’s right, it’s two doughs to make one empanada. Of course,” he asserted.
However, he soon began to consider that perhaps the size of the dough could change the preparation.
“Unless it’s very large and I can bend it. Yes, but not all of them are the same diameter,” she commented.
Finally, the journalist on the ground decided to ask a worker at the establishment to clear up any doubts.
The man explained that it was advisable to use a large dough of 22 centimeters, which is folded to form the empanada and therefore does not need a second dough.
The clarification highlighted Karina Álvarez's mistake and brought to a close the peculiar moment that took over the live broadcast during the lead-up to the National Holidays.
