If You Love Oreos, Try These Dairy-Free Desserts Featuring America’s Favorite Cookie
Sold in more than 100 countries, Oreos are, without a doubt, one of the world’s favorite cookies.
“If you have some vegan vanilla ice cream on hand, some non-dairy milk , and some Oreo cookies, you are just a quick blend away from enjoying a super delicious shake,”
Oreos are so popular, that in 2022, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) dedicated time to finding out the very best way to eat Oreos by twisting, peeling, and cutting over 1,000 cookies (yes, really). They didn’t come to any definitive conclusion, and ultimately, the best way to eat a cookie is subjective. But we say there’s a pretty good case to be made for adding them to a dessert, like pudding pie or tiramisu.

Are Oreos vegan?
Oreos are an ultra-processed snack made with multiple ingredients, but none of them are animal products. This means that this popular cookie is suitable for vegans. It hasn’t always been this way, however. In fact, up until 1998, they were actually made with lard.
Many varieties of Oreo are vegan, too, but not all. Double-Stuf, for example, is animal-free, and so are Golden, Mega Stuf, and the new Chicken & Waffles, Deep Fried, and Banana Pudding. Watch out for flavors covered in fudge, however, as these contain dairy.

Of course, Oreos are delicious on their own or paired with a glass of oat milk. But arguably, they are even better when they’re mixed with ingredients like chocolate and nut butter in cakes, shakes, and desserts. Find some of our favorite vegan Oreo recipes below.
