With Grandma's applesauce recipe, you can bring the taste of fresh, seasonal fruit to your table all year round. We'll show you how to easily make applesauce in a saucepan or in the oven.
Ingredients · Servings 3 glasses
- 2 kg apples (eg Boskoop, Elstar, Cox Orange)
- 1 organic lemon
- 150 g sugar
- Spices as desired (e.g. cinnamon, cloves, vanilla, ginger)
Method · 45 min
- Peel, quarter, and thoroughly remove the cores from the apples, then dice them. Halve the lemon and squeeze out the juice. Place the apples in a large pot with 200 ml of water, the lemon juice, sugar, and spices. Bring to a boil and simmer over medium heat until the apples are soft.
- Remove any spices from the pot. Puree the soft apples to the desired consistency. Fill the applesauce into clean, hot-rinsed jars, let cool briefly, then seal tightly.
- Place the jars in a saucepan filled with water, ensuring they do not touch. Bring the water to a boil and process for approximately 30 minutes. Remove from the water bath, dry, and allow to cool.
