Easy White Chocolate Halloween Chex Mix for Parties

This white chocolate Halloween Chex mix is sweet, crunchy and feeds a crowd! Everyone always loves this addicting monster munch with cereal, pretzels and candy.

Ingredients · Servings 16
  • 3 cups Chex (, rice or corn)
  • 2 cups Cheerios
  • 1-2 cups pretzel sticks (, broken in half)
  • 1 cup Fall M&M's (, more for topping)
  • 1 cup candy corn
  • 10 ounces white chocolate (, I used Ghirardelli wafers)
  • Halloween sprinkles (, optional)
Method · 20 min
  1. Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the 3 cups Chex, 2 cups Cheerios, 1 - 2 cups pretzels, 1 cup candy corn and 1 cup M&M's. Stir until combined.
  2. Melt chocolate: Place 10 ounces white chocolate in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave the chocolate at 50% power for 1 minute. Stir and then melt in 30 second increments (stirring in between). Do not overcook or it will burn.
  3. Mix together: Next pour the melted chocolate over the chex mix and stir until well coated. Then pour the Chex onto a piece of wax or parchment paper. Sprinkle extra M&M's and Halloween sprinkles on top for color, if desired, while the chocolate is still warm.
  4. Cool: Allow to set until hardened (at least 15 minutes). Store in a zip top bag or covered container. Store on the counter for 3 days or in the freezer for 3 months.

Why I Love This Recipe

I love making this white chocolate Halloween Chex mix for Halloween parties and game day. Just like my fall Chex mix, the sweet-and-salty combo is always a hit, and the kids can help make it.

You can also switch up the cereal and candy for other holidays, like in my Christmas Chex mix or bunny bait for Easter.

Find the full printable recipe with specific measurements below.

Cereal: Rice Chex cereal and original Cheerios are my preference but corn Chex also works or you could do a combination with wheat Chex.

Pretzel sticks: Breaking these in halve makes it that much easier to munch on this monster munch Chex mix. You can also use 1-2 cups bite-size pretzel twists.

M&Ms: I used the autumn colored Fall M&Ms to stay with theme of a recipe for Halloween Chex mix.

Candy corn: My favorite are the yellow, orange and white, but you can use the autumn mix or just candy pumpkins.

White chocolate melting wafers: I used Ghirardelli wafers as they melt more smoothly than white chocolate chips.

How to Make Halloween Chex Mix

In a large bowl, combine the Chex cereal, Cheerios, pretzels sticks, candy corn and M&M’s. Place white chocolate in a large microwavable bowl and melt in 30 second increments before pouring over cereal mixture and tossing gently to coat.

Pour Halloween Chex mix onto a piece of wax or parchment paper. Sprinkle M&M’s and Halloween sprinkles on top while the chocolate is warm. Allow to set until hardened then break into pieces and enjoy right away or store for a Halloween party, game day or event.

Tips for Success

How to melt chocolate: To avoid the chocolate from burning melt in 30 second increments stirring in between or cook on a double broiler. To avoid the white chocolate from seizing ensure your melting bowl is free from any droplets of water.

Adapt to any holiday: Just change the candy colors or mix-ins! I love to use pink and red for this Valentine Chex mix, the white chocolate coating is so addicting.

Sweet and salty snack mix: Add some honey roasted peanuts, cashews, dry roasted peanuts or any other nut you like.

Cereal: Use any variety of Chex you like in this easy Halloween snack mix, even fun varieties like Chocolate Chex or peanut butter Chex. Honey Nut Cheerios works, too!

Fun add-ins: Halved caramels, Wilton candy eyes, Reese’s pieces, Bugles or other Halloween cereal. If you are adding more than the recipe calls for, adjust the chocolate accordingly.

What are some ideas for Halloween Chex mix?

Make it your own with candy eyes, Reese’s Pieces, candy pumpkins, Bugles, or Halloween cereal. You can also swap in different Chex cereal or candy. If you add extra mix-ins, melt a little more white chocolate so everything gets coated.

Why did my Halloween Chex mix turn soggy?

Moisture is usually the culprit. The cereal can soften if the mix is packed away before it has fully cooled, or if humidity or condensation gets into the container. Let it set and cool completely, then store it airtight. If you keep it in the refrigerator, let the sealed container warm up before opening to help prevent condensation from forming on the mix.

How to store leftover Halloween chex mix?

While you can store this Chex mix for Halloween on the counter, I find that the white chocolate tends to get soft. I prefer to store it in the refrigerator in an airtight container. Stored properly it should last a few weeks.

Can I freeze white chocolate monster munch?

Yes, cool completely then place in a sealed container or zip top bag for up to 3 months. Remove 30 minutes before ready to serve. It’s also great cold eo enjoy by the handful straight out of the freezer. This Halloween Chex mix recipe won’t last long!
